A week ago we woke up in a different Britain. For those of us who believe Britain’s future lies in our EU membership, and for everyone who believes in a multicultural society, the last week has been deeply alarming.
Not only are we now on course for serious economic turmoil, but our politics is broken too. The Conservative party has repeatedly failed us. Leaving our country divided and many people struggling to get by. This is partly through incompetence, but mainly through a determined attack on the majority of working people in this country. And the wealth created in our country is dependent on the working people.
Labour is imploding, with a revolt by a majority of Labour MPs. Their aim is to cripple the leadership. They are not concerned that this leaves their party unable to hold the Government to account while they engage in a civil war.
It will be a long time before the dust settles. In the coming months it falls upon the Green Party, to put forward a positive vision of what a post-referendum Britain could look like.
Caroline Lucas has produced a six point plan to bring some order into the chaos surrounding everyone. It’s only a start, and in the coming weeks and months there will be discussion and debate about the best way forward. The six point plan is as follows:
This six point plan is only the beginning. In the coming weeks The Green Party will be redoubling its campaigning on the issues close to our hearts. That means that The Green Party will be standing up to racism and xenophobia wherever it occurs. The Green Party have a proud history of fighting bigotry and our elected politicians across the country will be focusing on this over the coming days.
When others are divided The Green Party will unite to oppose Trident renewal. The Green Party will hold Ministers to account as the Chilcot Inquiry is published and bring legislation to Parliament which will distribute the benefits of migration to all communities in Britain.
The Green Party are ambitious for the next few months. In a time of crisis The Green Party will stand up for people, and for our environment. New members are joining the party at a rate of almost one per minute.
